These Days
Let me tell you a tale
About the days like these.
They are at once long and short,
A sharpened blur, everyone agrees.
We are forced to sit quite still
And make friends with our unease.
It’s wild and weird and quite unreal
Basically the only guarantees.
So we’ll continue on, as we do
With a sliver of hope that doesn’t seize.
A piece for me, and some for you
Take it with you, please.
And though it won’t be over in a blink,
We’ve added this to our expertise:
A promise to remember we’re never as alone
As we might think.
Strangely enough, we shot this series weeks prior to being quarantined for Covid 19 here in Minnesota. These images, like us, sat dormant for many, many months. Once we started to stir, we revisited them with a very different perspective. We asked the lovely writer April Smasal to try to put some words to what we were all feeling about this time, this place, and moving forward. Not an easy task, to be sure, but she did such an amazing job making these images into more than just pretty pictures. April captured the emotion and tone of such a peculiar time with her earnest words.
